The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on Wednesday made a worldwide appeal for $2.7 million in emergency money to help flood victims according to Reuters AlerNet. Six hurricanes have batterred the Central Vietnam region since August bringing about major floods. Meterologists estimated water levels were the highest in two decades in several central provinces. A government report said 61,500 houses were submerged in Quang Ngai province and Danang. Death toll in the region has risen to 332 people. (Source: Reuters)

Mid-Autum Festival - Tet Trung Thu
To celebrate Tet Trung Thu (or Mid-Autum Festival) - a Vietnamese/Chinese traditional children festival, ICAN organized a fun day for children and youth on September 22, 2007 at Lieu Quan Buddhish Cultural Center campus with an objective to promote Vietnamese heritage awareness among younger generations. The event included activities with lion dance, animal balloon booth hosted by young members of ICAN, lantern workshop to show kids how to make their own lanterns. The event was also an opportunity for parents and children together participating in same activities to strengthen family bonding. This year Tet Trung Thu even though was not well known to many people as previous years when the festival took place at downtown San Jose, it attracted a big crowd given a small campus at Lieu Quan.
