what We Do

Bridging the cultural gap between social workers and Vietnamese American families referred from Emergency Response of the Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS). Helping families to understand he county system and its roles and responsibilities, and to help the county understand the family’s culture and traditions.

WHY It Matters

The Cultural Bridge Program works to ensure that children are properly cared for and protected from abuse and neglect at home. In addition, we establish cultural understanding between the families and social workers of DFCS. Lastly, our program allows families to access and utilize culturally sensitive community resources.

how We Help

By communicating the differences and similarities between the system culture and the family culture, we help the family and social worker to obtain a mutual understanding of expectations. We accompany the social worker to the location requested by the families and assist the social worker to understand the cultural context of the presenting concern. In addition, we assist the family in understanding the cultural context of the allegation and the child welfare process and expectations. We also assist both parties in understanding the resources available in the community. We will be there for you and your family in navigating the system.
