POSITION TITLE : Project Intern

DURATION : Summer 2019 (June to August/Sept)

TRAINING :   Will provide training in Scrum Project Management system

POSITION :   Unpaid Internship with mileage allowances

Position Summary

The Project Intern will work with the Program Manager and Project Coordinator to ensure successful recruitment for and delivery of our early childhood education programs in alignment with ICAN’s vision of building the community by building the next generation of caring leaders.

The Project Intern will be responsible for coordinating and/or facilitating parenting workshops and other activities at ICAN Family Resource Center (and other locations) to support early learning, promote parent and community engagement, and increase access to early development resources in the community.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Program:  Assist in the planning, designing, implementing and evaluating culturally responsive community education programs, workshops, and other outreach/community events

    1. Work with Management and Family Resource Center (FRC) Manager to develop parents’ leadership skills so they can become more engaged and better advocates for their children.

    2. Work with FRC team members to provide clients with information, resources and referrals that are culturally, linguistically, and developmentally appropriate for their needs;

  2. Outreach & external relationship:  engage all sectors in promoting awareness of the importance of the first 5 years of education.

    1. Conduct outreach efforts through various channels, including (but not limited to) social media, mass-mailing, flyers distribution, faith-based channels, community-based organizations, schools and ethnic media.  Network with other community-based organizations to do cross referrals for programs.

    2. Organize or participate in community, cultural and outreach events organized by ICAN or by others to promote recognition of ICAN’s brand and its services

    3. Support management in developing strategic partnership with other agencies, identifying service gaps and advocating for unmet needs to the city, county, and other funders/stakeholders.

  3. Evaluation/Reporting: Assist Program Manager and Project Coordinator to

    1. Conduct evaluation to measure program’s impact and ensure that program meets the service delivery and outcomes approved by funder

    2. Maintain ongoing data collection, submit reports and documentation to funders on time.

    3. Assist with conducting and educating parents about Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) and Family Protective Factors as adopted tools to identify the child’s developmental needs and assess family’s strength (strength-based perspective)

    4. Assist Program Analyst in pulling meaningful program data showing program impact (for marketing/social media)
