ICAN Read and Play
ICAN Read & Play is a family-centered program that encourages early literacy, creativity, and bonding through engaging activities, shared reading, and play.
WHO WE SERVE
We support young children—especially those getting ready for kindergarten—and their families. Our program is tailored for children in the San Jose area, with an emphasis on culturally diverse families, particularly within the Vietnamese community.
WHAT WE DO
The ICAN Read & Play program brings families together through early literacy, creative play, and cultural connection. Each week, we host a special rotating activity from 3–4 PM—on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday—featuring Sing Along, Dance, or Movie time. These engaging sessions help children build language skills, express themselves, and have fun. Families can also enjoy quality time together at our outdoor playground and explore our ICAN Mini Library, with books available for checkout in both Vietnamese and English.
WHY IT MATTERS
This program supports early childhood development through meaningful, play-based learning and shared family experiences. By combining reading, creativity, and interactive play, the program helps children build foundational language and social skills in a fun and nurturing environment. It also encourages parents and caregivers to actively participate in their child’s learning journey, strengthening family bonds and reducing stress. Through access to books in Vietnamese and English, the program promotes bilingualism and cultural connection, helping families celebrate their heritage while preparing children for future academic success.
